Is The Darkmoon Faire Still Relevant?

This past weekend I was asked the question “Do people still do the Darkmoon Faire anymore?” My answer to that was a definitive “Yes and here is my rational behind it.”

I am a total altoholic. On the primary server that I am playing on I have a full list of characters in various stages of development in terms of leveling. When Warlords of Draenor dropped I had seven Level 90’s to choose from to be my pioneer in the expansion.  Eventually I decided on my Mage whom I boosted to level 90 without first getting to level 60. In hindsight it was probably not the best choice to make to learn the expansion, but my raid team wanted the mage, so that is what I went with.  Since I took the boost before level 60, my professions were sadly way behind where they needed to be.

I went ahead and took on Warlords without them and leveled up to 100.  It would have been nice having first aid and bandages, but at least I could crank out some mage food in between fights.  Now that I am level 100 I am in the process of going back to level those professions up.  My goal by the end of the week is to have all of my professions to level 600 before the end of the week.  Then I will take the Mage to Darkmoon to take advantage of the 5 profession points to help me bypass the quirky profession system that came out with Warlords of Draenor.

I am not sure if it is because I am not used to the new system, or the fact that I am not encountering much in the way of materials to run my primary profession building which is tailoring, but thus far I am not a fan of the way professions are now handled. I freely admit that the whole Garrison thing confuses me and I really don’t fully understand everything there is to know about it.  So far, it seems like Blizzard took the worst features of World of Warcraft and combined them with the worst features of Star Wars The Old Republic.  Not only are the professions confusing and not user friendly, they also fail to produce anything of any great value in the game.

My best plan for dealing with the profession debacle is to get all of my level 90’s into Warlords at least far enough to open up my professions. From there I will collect garrison resources and do the Darkmoon Faire once a month until I am ready to level each of my characters to level 100.  Hopefully by then,  I will be able to bypass much of the hassle of leveling professions opening up more game time to do more interesting things in the game.
